Ailey Picasso is a PhD student in American Studies. She received her BA in Molecular Biology and Dance from Hampshire College and her M.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from the University of Iowa.
Her research is centered on uncovering how capital shapes and complicates the workings of American dance and culture. Ailey is interested in exploring the place of dance in American society and how dance participates in the performance and reproduction of class identities. She is also concerned with the ways in which ideas of the corporeal and the physical are interconnected with culture, political economy, and history.
